We without further ado, I would like to introduce my co-host, retro expert, and directory manager of Thevintagelist.com Mitzi Swisher.
Hi Mitzi how are you today?
Can you tell the folks listening what we'll be talking about? Mitzi says "we'll be talking about items we've found and will be listing on eBay, how to give your eBay listings extra juice and Auctionwally's best tips on saving gas for antiques dealers".
Walt: Mitzi, I want to let folks know that if they listen all the way through the show, there''s going to be a contest at the end of the show. I have a lot of collectibles in my inventory so I'm going to make the contest a regular event for every show. Cause, hey I'm not above bribery to get people to listen!
Question to Mitzi: What did you find to sell this week and where did you get it? Reminder to call in. during the last 15 minutes. Mitzi answers eloquently, but you'll have to listen to the show to find out what she says.
Question to Walt: What did you find to sell this week and where did you get it?
Walt: "Well for the last few weeks I've had some pretty good coin collections and I'll be listing the end of those but hope to get more soon. Coins, silver and gold are the hottest collectibles on the market. I have a neat antique lock collection from the Ashburnham Estate I purchased a few months ago and will be selling those and more new/old stock tools from that same estate. Then while I was in Brimfield for the Antiques show I picked up something I remember from my childhood, which were Wacky Packages. Those were stickers that were parodies on well known advertising campaigns such as Crust Toothpaste, and Choc-Full-of Nuts and Bolts Coffee. Yup I went to the Brimfield Show in July, the largest Antiques Show in the Country, the cultural epicenter of antiquity and fine arts, and I purchased...Wacky Packages...There's goes my street cred".
Question to Mitzi: What are you using to give extra extra juice to your eBay auctions and what do you do to turn your eBay customers into repeat buyers? Call in reminder, during the last 15 minutes. Again, Mitzi does a great job of explaining her best techniques here, but you'll have to listen to the show to find out what she says!
Question to Walt: What ways would your recommend for dealers to save gas money?
Well there are a quite a few out there and as you can imagine with such an important subject, much of what's out there is myth. Here are some that have been tested, researched, and actually work. Tires, (Walt goes to web site here) Then jumps back at coda. If you drive a car with a standard transmission, consider using gears 1st, 3rd, and 5th when you travel on the interstate. Don't let your car idle.... especially in show lines, flea market lines etc.
This are all things that save decent percentages on gas, but here's my best tip for saving a BIG Chunk of gas money. Qualify your house calls, use the gas situation to help you close the deal to avoid a bee-back. Well I want to thank every one for listening and remind them that the show airs live on Sunday Afternoons at 2pm eastern time.
There will be show notes posted at www.auctionwally.com with links to the sites we've talked about as well as a player and an archive of all our past episodes of the Auctionwally show. If they subscribe to the show in a feed they can get the latest episode downloaded to their computer when it becomes available. Well Mitz, I mentioned in the beginning of the show that there was going to be a contest, so here it is. Let's see who's been paying attention. The 3 contest questions are:
1) What is the name of the new online collectibles directory that Mitzi manages?
2) In my segment on gas savings tips, what do I consider the method to saving a BIG CHUNK of gas money.
3) What would you like to see featured in upcoming episodes of the Auctionwally Show? (There's no wrong answer to question #3) The first person to email me at contest@auctionwally.com with the correct answers to #1 & 2 and a suggestion for question #3 will win an out of print book titled "Going...Going...Gone! A Practical Auction Guide. This book was printed in 1982 long before eBay, so of course it's for live auctions, but it has a lot of great old school strategy for any kind of antiques and collectibles marketing. The first person to email me with the contest answers will recieve a copy of that book.
