News becomes blog

Hello. The page here formerly titled “News” will now be titled “blog”.  It will still contain events I consider to be newsworthy in the auction/antiques world, but will also come from a “Day in the Life of an Auctioneer” perspective.

Expect personal anecdotes, rants jokes, stories and other such foolishness published on a random basis.

Oh, and I”d love to have a conversation with you via comments.

Thanks,

Walt

Thanks for the prize! I finally found a question I could answer, and it was worth the wait.

Regarding the microjobs, I've been a full-time, head-of-household freelancer for 25 years, since my husband became disabled and needed someone always at home. The best part is not having to work for people I don't like. The worst part is obtaining affordable health insurance that actually pays for health care when I need it, but I'm hoping the new health care plan will make the situation tolerable for new microjob holders.

For the past 5 years or so, I've also been selling online and doing focus groups.

You have some really neat items up for auction! Are you going to consider using Proxibid or another site in the future? I'd love to bid, but live in Florida :-(.

@Joy

I hear you on the health care Joy, it's often the sticking point for many who would otherwise be self-employed. I do know, (although I don't remember the exact name of the org.) that there are some self employment insurance groups that give discounted rates.

Best of luck and keep plugging away, and remember, if you're self employed, you always have a job!

Thanks for your comments!

@Hilary
I would love to do that, if I did, I would probably use iCollector.com or Auctionzip.com as I've done contract work for both of those companies.
The reasons I'm not doing that right now is because I'm not sure how my live crowd would react to a left bid system.
In a full size auction it's OK, but where these have a small crowd to begin with, I might have a tough time w/ internet bidding. If I institute it in the future, I'll post the news immediately.

Thanks!

Walt
