Genuine or Fake? Ivory pin test

Here is a simple test to determine whether your item is made of genuine Ivory or bone, or if the item is a plastic fake.

Insert a pin into a pair of pliers, heat the tip with a cigarette lighter until the tip is glowing red. Attempt to insert the pin into the bottom or another inconspicuous place on your item.

If the pin sinks into the piece at all, it cannot be genuine Ivory, or bone.
