Newsletter Sunday March 21st, March Madness at auction
|
There is plenty of March Madness in the auctions & antiques world to go around, and you don’t have to be a Basketball fan to catch it.
Yard sales and estate sales are just starting to bloom, fresh buys are everywhere and auction fever can be just as volatile as a case of Basketball March Madness.
Here are a few tips:
Don’t get caught up in the “fever”, keep your head, buy right. In early Spring, people tend to overpay at estate sales, auctions and shows as they get ready for the busy selling season. Yes, you want fresh merch, but sometimes the seller knows this, and overprices hoping to snag an eager fish who will overpay at the beginning of the season.
Be ready to take advantage of those that are not quite ready. Some of the earliest sales and events will be ill attended because the person in charge has not put all the right things in place for an early season event to be successful. Watch for this, and attend those when possible, it could mean great buys.

Finally…my next episode of The AuctionWally Show, should be posted by Wed evening of this coming week. It’s bee a while between eps. but this will be a good one as I’ve interviewed PickerBrad. An old-school antiques picker who was kind enough to share plenty of inside information and fun stories. ============ Amazon and eBay sellers: electronic gadgets, computers, cell phones, video games, I am a a rep for Closeout Solution, a company who sub-wholesales, laptops, iPod accessories, X-Box games etc.

If you know someone who can use this type of product line, as with everything I do, finder’s fees are paid for referrals that result in a sale or purchase. ======================
I chose CT as the site of the week because, to many, coins are a confusing area of collecting. Among considerations there are: condition, scarcity, mintage, silver content, country of origin and market demand.
CoinTalk.com is set up like many sites which has a helpful forum board style that I know many of you are familiar with. It’s free to join and there are ways to make connections, ask questions, buy, sell and trade.
There’s even a a What’s it Worth section.
Check them out!

====================================
The weekly contest: Superman and Batman recently broke records for prices realized at auction. But Superman’s squeeze was not ignored by the comic book industry either: What is the complete title of her comic book and what did the #26 issue, that’s listed in my directory sell for?
The first person to email me with the correct answer to the question above, will be the winner. Now of course, I’ll need a way to get that package to the winner, so send your snail mail address along with your contest answers. The prize is a neat collectibles surprise envelope which includes things found in a recent estate purchase I made. Things likely to be in said envelope are vintage postcards, ephemera, books, old photos and who knows what?
There are a LOT of live auctions out there.
The best way I know of to search them is to use Auctionzip.com the largest live auction locator.
