Email Article Vera asks:
I have a Shaker broom maker that belonged to a great uncle who used it on his farm just south of Farmersburg, IN.
He raised my maternal grandfather who was born in the late 1800’s.

The broom maker came to my family through my grandfather.
Farmersburg is not far from the Kentucky Shaker community.
Where can I sell this?
Vera

AW says: That’s a great piece of Americana Vera. Often the best thing to sell such a piece of local history, is right in it’s own back yard. The best way I know of to find reputable auction houses is through Auctionzip.com the largest online locater of live auction houses.
All you need do, is go to Auctionzip.com and in the search box at the top of the page, enter the zip code and the radius you want to search for auctions in your area. You can even enter keywords to search for auctions already selling shaker items, and by types of auctions. IE: antiques, farm equipment etc.
For example, click here and you’ll find a page that pulls up listings for auctions within 50 miles of Farmsburg, IN the location you’ve indicated that your broom maker likely came from.
Call some of these auction houses and ask the terms and conditions of consigning your item. A neat Shaker item should be welcomed by any good auction house.
Good luck!

My family has deeds for land signed by Abraham Lincoln. How can I find out if these are copies or the originals?
These would certainly have to be verified by a handwriting or autograph expert. I suggest taking a look over at my friend Jack Straw's website,
Here's one page of several on his site with reference to autograph experts.
