What's it worth? Plank seat Windsor chair set appraisal
Here are the pics, please let me know if you need more… these were purchased at an antique store in Upper Black Eddy, PA in the mid 1950s. Unfortunately they were refinished in the mid 1980s. there are 4 that are the same and 2 that almost match…
There are no makers marks on the chairs whatsoever. The guy who refinished them in the 80s offered my parents $750 for the set.
Thanks,
Robert
AW says: Those are very nice examples of Plank Seat Windsor chairs. The back spindles on the matching set make this set referred to as “Arrow Backs”.
The turnings are very good and the structure seems to be excellent on all of these. They are called plan seats because the seat is made out of one solid plank of wood. Reproductions are almost always made with multiple pieces of wood for the seat, this is a cheaper process.
Circa 1820-1850
All values = 85% for the matching set of 4, 15”% for the other two chairs.
