What's it worth? Appraisal of solid mahogany bedroom suite

Jim asks:

Hello again Wally, I have this 4 piece bedroom set I don’t know to much about it, but I know your the person to ask.

I was told it could be over 100 years old. It was made by Holland furniture company of Holland,MI. The bed look’s like a sleigh bed, and inside all the drawers of the dressers say genuine mahogany, and on the side of the drawers it has a metal plate that says Holland furniture co.

I can’t find anything about this set on the internet. Please send help.

Thank’s Jim

AW says: Thanks so much for the kind words Jim, I’m flattered that you think so much of my services. Lets’ see what we can do for you.

The Holland Furniture co. was organized in 1894, in Michigan. The set you have is of very high quality and is made of solid mahogany and “crotch wood”  at that. Crotch wood being the cut of the tree it was taken from to get that magnificent flared design. (Or at least the chests should be solid, the bed could be veneered, it’s tough to say from photos)

If you use a bit of Old English Scratch cover on this, you won’t believe how much it comes back to life. Be sure to wipe away the excess, OE is NOT a polish, it’s meant to cover blemishes.

It’s not actually quite as old as you’d hoped, it’s circa 1910-20s. It’s in the Queen Anne style. The small night stand although kind of close, is not actually part of this set.

Retail value: (which I’m telling folks is tough to get for furniture in this economy) $600-$700 for the set.

Wholesale: $400

Quick sale: $300

Keywords: Solid Mahogany, Cedar chest, chests of drawers,
