What's it worth? Appraisal of hand carved statue

  We were given this carved statue by a friend who claims he purchased it in the Philippines around 25 years ago and he paid $500 at the time. It is made of wood and looks to have human hair.

AW says: This appears to be a decorative or tourist piece. It’s hand crudely hand carved, and certainly looks Filipino. Judging by the way it’s cut, and the scoring on the back, I’d say it’s early to mid 20th century. The value on an item like this of course is very subjective, as is with most unusual artwork.
