Charlene asks:
Wally,
Hello!. I purchased these 2 folk art portraits today. I did find them as miniatures up for auction in 1994:
The set I have is approx 9.5” x 11”. The woman I purchased them from said they had been her mother-in-laws (she would have been approx 150 years old).
I took the back off of one of them and took a photo of the back of Mr. Arthur Wilson. The other is Mrs. Helin Wilson.
Thanks for any help.
Thx,
Charlene
AW says: Hello Charlene, i’ts good to see you again. Your framed art is lovely, unfortunately, i’ts not very old, 25 years at the most. The reason we know this is because you were so thorough in taking a good picture of what is under the lifted backing.
The nails are modern, and the very sharp edges of the wood, clearly indicate to the trained eye that this is new framework.
This particular faux “lemon” yellow frame has become widely reproduced in the past 25 years. These are manufactured prints of
watercolor paintings that do a very good job of looking like actual watercolors.
