What's it worth? Appraisal of solid silver salver
Ed asks:
I’ve had this for years and thought it was just a piece of silver plate. When my wife decided to clean it, it turned out that the background area is tan enameling, and not brass or copper showing through! I had it checked at a local shop that buys scrap silver and he verified that its solid silver. There are no marks and I even took the time to look (in frustration!) using a Clarity video magnification unit at both 30X and 50X. Not a thing to be found.
The dimensions are: 11 7/8th inches in diameter by 3/8 of an inch high. The rim is 1.5 inches wide.
It weighs 13.8 ounces.
From looking at the back closely, it appears to be hand-hammered, not machine formed.
What have I got doctor?

AW says:
If what you’ve got is solid silver, it’s pretty valuble. You’ve mentioned that it’s hand hammered, that being the case, it is likely hand engraved. The work on it appears to be of the Middle Eastern vein and is of good quality.
I would say that it’s likely circa early to mid 20th century.
