Appraisal for Antique Singer Sewing Machine

I have an old singer sewing machine. It does not fold down into the cabinet, but has a carved box
that sits on top. It also has all of the attachments. Could you please give me some idea of the
value. This is in excellent condition.

Hello and thanks for your question, I’ve seen many of these old Singer Machines and sold a few of themą„¤ Believe it or not, they are not all that uncommon. The reason for this is that they are made of Oak and Iron and just never wore out. (Some of the cabinets were made of other woods, but you get they idea, they were rugged!)
Because they were so durable the families that owned them kept them around. Because sewing machines were such a staple in the American family home, nearly everyone had at least one. For these reasons they are not rare. Because they are not rare, they are not priced very high, I’ve never gotten more than $125.00 for one at auction. Most of them sell at auction at around $50.00 to $75.00.
The kind you have however is a bit earlier than most and somewhat more valuable than the fold-in modelsą„¤ Yours is probably valued between $170.00 and $250.00.
Many people are taking the bases and making tables out of them, saving the drawers to make a cabinet. This is unfortunate because these are icons of Americana, perhaps in future years they will become more valuable as they become scarcer due the before mentioned practices.
