What's it worth? Appraisal for 19th century Satsuma vase/lamp
Pamela says:
Dear Auction Wally,
I have enjoyed looking at some of your appraisal work and you are really personable, so I clicked on the brown box and then sent you the 22 + through Paypal.
My husband and I inherited this vase about 18 months ago.
I have an artisan jewelry store on Ruby Lane, and got a lead there that this vase is a Satsuma. I’m tossing from my mind all the things Bob said about this lamp.
I look forward to hearing from you. (I am going to immediately be sending a followup email with the measurements.
We took off that wood bottom and found no marks on the pottery underneath it.)
Pamela

AW says: Thanks for the kind words, it’s nice to know one’s work is appreciated! Yes, what you have is a 19th century Satsuma vase that was converted into a lamp by having a hole drilled into the bottom. (This appraisal reflects that modification)
It’s a lovely piece with very detailed moriage work. (Readers can learn more about moriage by entering the word in the searchbox at the top of this page.)
