What's it worth? Appraisal of antique dome top chest

    I purchased this Blanket chest 30 years ago.  I was told it from Sweden and was made in the 1700’s.  All original paint and hardware.  Thanks in advance for your appraisal.

AW says: First of all, thanks for sending so many clear pics. Although I’ve not posted all of them here, they were all useful in dating and evaluating your blanket chest.

I agree that it’s Swedish in style, maybe Finnish, but certainly Scandanavia. It’s circa late1700s to early 1800s. It’s got a great color, and typical designs on the corners. Many of these old chests survived the years due to sentimentality and functionality. They were just too practical to be gotten rid of.

If they didn’t have an immediate use, they’d of course be stored with contents and fogotten about for generations. This is why you can still find some of them in good condition.
