What's it worth? Appraisal of antique Lincoln print
Ron asks:
17” X 20” framed portrait of Lincoln dated 1864 in excellent condition all the way around.
There are three handwritten names equally space around the bottom of the portrait, and
reads as follows:
First name of the far left name is preceded by the phrase “From life by – F. Blanpruten
(the best I can make out since its hand wrote).
Second handwritten name that is located in the middle of the three directly below the
portrait is “Abraham Lincoln.”
The third name of the far right reads as follows: “Eng by F. Walfuir” (again it’s hard to
make out the handwriting).
There is a 2” x ¾” label located on the bottom of the framed glass that reads as
follows: “Genuine Antique Print”
Guaranteed to be over 100 years old
AW says: This as the plaque indicates is a print. The signatures are likely photo signatures placed by the print co. From life, means that the subject, Abe, posed for the original sketch instead of the artist drawing it from another photo. Eng. stands for engraved.
It’s a great old print and has some value on it’s own merit, but not the kind an original work of art would bring.
