What's it Worth? Appraisal for Duz Give-a-Way Glasses
Hello…..
I remember my grandmother using these when I was young. I have been unable to find any info on these glasses, but my mom seems to think that they were “give aways” in possibly laundry detergent boxes. I know these are probably small items compared to what you usually appraise, but not knowing anything and not able to find out anything about them just frustrates me.
AW says: Yes, I believe those were given away in boxes of Duz soap. Almost ever box of Duz came with a premium, it was their big sales pitch. Again, these are very retro, they were probably made by the Libbey Glass co. or an American glass co on the same par. My appraisal is for the 4 glasses, if you had a set of six they would be worth about double. These are a retail item, and usually won’t get a lot of “dealer” interest. Date range: 1960s Retail value:
(top price)
Wholesale value: $15
(The mid range price you could expect to achieve at a well advertised live auction. The price that is most often realized)
Quick sale value: $5
The price your likely to get if you have to sell your item immediately and your prospective customer is aware of this.
Common terminology, nicknames, keywords: Duz glasses, Libbey glass co., retro, orange spot, premiums, give-a-ways
Care and storage tips: I like to see people use a brush when cleaning these. Although a small hand may fit inside, the pressure from wedging a fist in there can oft times crack a graduated piece of glass.
Also, never put these in a dishwasher, the enamel paint will wear off.
