What's it Worth? Appraisal of Ege Rya Rug

The Rug is roughly 8’ X 12’ and according to label is made up of 51% Pure new wool 39% jute and 10% polypropylene

I tried to photograph the labels and if you can’t see it says EGE RYA Boutiqe. The “T” within the circle i think indicates the factory where it was made. I scraped the remnants of a VERY old JC Penny label off and it appears to say something like “Sonato 90” as perhaps the style. The imprint RN 45915 is unknown to me. The label also says made in Denmark at the bottom.

The rug is in perfect condition but could use a professional cleaning just to make it brighter. The wool is in excellent shape and is still plush and funky as ever. I assume its from the 70’s because of its color but i could be wrong. What’s it worth?

AW says: That’s a great Danish Modern rug, and your spot on, it’s early 1970s. I love the bright colors to set off what would likely be presented on a rug like this: dark Teak wood Danish style furniture.

Date range: 1970s

Retail value: $600-$850
(top price)

Wholesale value: $350-$500
(The midrange price you could expect to achieve at a well advertised live auction. The price that is most often realized)

Quick sale value: $250
The price your likely to get if you have to sell your item immediately and your prospective customer is aware of this.

Common terminology, nicknames, keywords: Danish Modern, Denmark, Eames Era, Retro, Herman Miller

In most cases, I believe it would be beneficial for your to give the prospective buyer a link to this page, and to bookmark it via your favorite bookmarking service.

Care and storage tips: Vacuum over the area rug to suck up any soil tracked into your house. Regular vacuuming helps prevent dirt from damaging the rug fibers. Shag rugs need to be shaken outside, since vacuuming can distort the softness of the pile.

Spot clean the dirtiest areas of the rug first. Blot with a paper towel or use a stain remover for stubborn spills. Add a teaspoon of mild detergent and a teaspoon of pure white vinegar to two quarts of warm water for a homemade cleaning solution that’s safe on your rugs.

Fully cleaning your wool rug requires some time, but the results will show. Take it outside onto a porch and wet it down with a hose.
Add some mild detergent to a bucket of water and run the mix over the rug. Use a clean sponge to wipe up the spots that need cleaning.

Wash down the rug after with clean water. Drain out the excess water by rolling up the rug in dry towels. Make sure the rug does not stay wet or stay in the sun. Moisture can cause bacterial growth, while sun exposure can shrink the rug.

  •  Do not scrub a wool rug because scrubbing can distort the pile.
  •  Spot cleaning can save you from fully cleaning a wool rug, and if you clean up right after spills occur, the chances of a stain setting in are less likely.
  •  If you do not know whether a stain remover will work, test it on a small part of the rug first to make sure it does not ruin the color or the pile.
  •  Make sure to use stain removers that are safe for wool rugs.
  • Always check the manufacturer tags for the best way to clean your rug.
