What's it Worth? Appraisal of Rataan Queen's Chair

rataan queen's chair rataan chairLola asks:

Hello, sorry, no bottom picture… It is in great shape… the story is that it came from the Philipenes when a WWII vet met a young girl and married her. She brought this chair, which belonged to her family with her. It has been well taken care of. What do you think?

AW says: Thanks so much for your appraisal request. Your chair would more accurately be   referred to as a rattan,  or ratan Peacock, or even a Queen or Kings chair. Rattan being the term for the flat reed material that come from palm trees. The story is feasible, and your chair is well designed. BTW, Morticia Addams from the Addams Family, made these famous in America.

Date range: 1950-1970

(top price)

Retail value: $175

Wholesale value: $95
(The midrange price you could expect to achieve at a well advertised live auction. The price that is most often realized)

Quick sale value: $50-$65
The price your likely to get if you have to sell your item immediately and your prospective customer is aware of this.

Common terminology, nicknames, keywords:  Peacock chair, ratan, rattan, Morticia Addams, Queen’s Chair, Kings Chair, Wicker chair,

In most cases, I believe it would be beneficial for your to give the prospective buyer a link to this page, and to bookmark it via your favorite bookmarking service.
Care and storage tips: This and other wicker pieces are stronger than they look, but don’t put them in situations where they can be bent, they will warp over long periods of time.
