Our knowledge of this desk is limited. We know it’s a Doten-Dunton Mission Executive Desk due to the stamping on each drawers interior. We think it’s mahogany but we’re not 100% certain. Our online searches have turned up that it’s most likely from the early 1900’s.
It is 55” wide x 32” deep x 30” tall with a 24-1/2 chair opening. It has two single and two double drawers on either side. A center drawer with pull out registers on either side (that must have rarely been used as you can see it’s original beauty). The drawer pulls are wood.
As solid and beautiful as it is, it’s much too large and we are looking to sell. It does have some damage on the front center legs and cosmetic wear and tear on the top surface.
Thanks so much for your help.
AW says: The Dontn-Dunten Desk company became best known for their “sanitary desks” which came about at the turn of the 20th century. Sanitary desks, are the large office desks which are off of the floor, up on legs. Prior to this period, large office desks had banks that went all the way to the floor.
Most of their desks are made of Walnut, and I believe your is as well. The issue you have with it, is the same challenge you’ll have selling it, it’s size.
Old English Dark scratch cover will take care of the places where the finish is missing.
