This sofa has been in my family for over sixty years. The wood is carved mahogany. Please give me as much information as you can.
Thanks so much.
AW says: You’re welcome Doris, thanks so much for your appraisal request. This is a French style sofa, which are sometimes referred to as a divan.
The carved mahogany is brings a nice value, and this is something that a decorator may like.
The way the back is upholstered would be referred to as “tufted panels”. The color is a nice one, and the condition looks to be excellent. It’s circa 1900-1930 and was made at a time when the U.S. was enamored with European style.
As with any sofa, it may take quite a bit of time to sell. The reason for this, is that folks are often very specific about the color, style and shades of upholstered furniture. It needs to match, carpets, drapes, the home. Whereas, wooden furniture and other accessories are more universal.
